Johannesburg – Mzwanele Manyi has resigned from the African Transformation Movement (ATM) and joined the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Announcing his move on Friday via Twitter, Manyi, who served as the Chief of Policy and Strategy at the ATM, said the EFF was the only political party capable of holding the African National Congress (ANC) accountable.
He declared that he was now a “card-carrying member of the EFF”.
Manyi said: “The only reason I am resigning it’s because I strongly believe that my career in politics and contribution to the transformation agenda of South Africa will be assisted by my move”.
Manyi denied he was unhappy with the ATM or anyone at the party.
He said there will be more strategic collaborations between ATM and EFF, as he will always “hold the ATM in high regard” as it is a very good organisation and well poised for growth.
Manyi joined the ATM as head of national elections after leaving the ANC.
Commenting on Manyi’s resignation, the ATM said, “it has received and accepted the resignation”.
Manyi was an NEC member of the ATM, which noted his contribution to changing the political discourse of the country.
“The ATM wishes Mr. Manyi all the best with his future endeavors,” the party said.
Explaining further why he joined the Red Berets, Manyi said: “South Africa is fast deteriorating into a failed state. It, therefore, needs shock treatment from an organisation whose posture is revolutionary.
“The EFF, being the third largest party in the country, is well poised to take over from the ANC quicker than any other party. The EFF is the real alternative that everyone has been asking about”.
“The EFF has a scale and demonstrable track record on accountability issues. Importantly, it is a listening party that genuinely engages the electorate before drawing up a manifesto.”
EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu posted on Twitter: “Welcome to the revolutionary economic emancipation movement Fighter Mzwanele.
“We are more than confident that you will add maximum value to the only reliable and dependable weapon in the hands of the oppressed and exploited masses of our people. Let’s fight on. Victory is…”
