Mbombela (Nelspruit) Elite crime busters – the Hawks – are looking for the man pictured above because they believe he may be able to assist them with their investigations into a cash-in-transit heist that happened last month.
Mpumalanga Hawks Spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale on Tuesday said: “The person depicted in the photograph may possibly assist the Hawks in the armed robbery investigation”.
Colonel Mogale said anyone with information on the whereabouts of the man pictured is urged to contact the Mpumalanga Serious Organised Crime Investigations D/W/O Elbert de Lange on 071 481 2815, SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or alternatively leave an anonymous tip-off on the MySAPS App.
Giving details of the cash-in-transit heist under investigation, Colonel Mogale said on 17 May 2023, a security cash van was ambushed along the D4394, New Forest main road in Mhala, just past Eagle petrol station.
“It is reported that a white Audi sedan came from behind and the occupants started shooting at the security vehicle tyres as well as the cabin,”
Colonel Mogale.
“The vehicle was forced to a halt and six suspects armed with assault rifles, wearing balaclavas and gloves, forced the driver and crew out of the cabin.
“The suspects robbed one security guard of his firearm and cell phone. They forced the guards to hide as they blasted the cash van.”
Colonel Mogale said the suspects then fled the scene with an unknown amount of cash.
