Lionel Messi is joining Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami as a free agent.
The Argentina football superstar turned down a big-money move to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia after his contract with French side PSG ended, reports Reuters.
“I have made the decision that I am going to Miami,” Messi said Wednesday in an interview confirming his move to the MLS.
“I still don’t have it agreed upon 100% and a few things are needed, but well, we decided to continue my path there,”
England’s David Beckham, formerly of Manchester United, Real Madrid, and the LA Galaxy, is a co-owner of Inter Miami, a new MLS side, which began play in the 2020 season.
The 35-year-old world cup winner’s move to the U.S.A. brings him closer to his home in Argentina.
