OUSTED: Willie Mandisha was COPE vice president until the party's national committee terminated his membership on Sunday. He also loses his MP position

Johannesburg – The Congress of The People (COPE) on Tuesday announced that it had terminated the membership of its cantankerous deputy President Wilie Madisha.

Announcing the development, COPE member Colleen Makuhubele said the decision to terminate Mandisha’s membership was a “well-thought-through decision”.

Makhubele said attempts at reconciliation with Mandisha had failed.

The party accuses Mandisha of sowing divisions and abusing party resources.

The decision to terminate Mandisha’s membership was taken by the party’s national committee on Sunday, revealed Cope Councillor Makhubele, who is the Speaker of the City of Johannesburg.

Mandisha, who has been at loggerheads with party president Mosiuoa Patrick “Terror” Lekota for several months, was one of two Cope Members of Parliament.

Cope also terminated the membership of the secretary for elections, Mzwandile Hleko, following the party’s national committee meeting on Sunday.
