Pretoria – Residents of Tshwane have been warned to reduce water consumption to avoid more areas suffering from outages.
The City of Tshwane on Sunday warned: “Should residents fail to heed this call, the current water outages will worsen, resulting in more areas being affected”.
Tshwane water supply continues to be affected by power failures impacting Rand Water infrastructure.
“Today, 2 July 2023, Tshwane would like to make an urgent clarion call to its customers to drastically reduce water consumption after the city was made aware by Rand Water that residents have exceeded water consumption by 15%,” said the City of Tshwane.
“Tshwane continues to observe low to no water supply from Rand Water in some of its areas.
“In light of this, residents are therefore urged to use water wisely and sparingly.”
The City of Tshwane said it has been experiencing challenges of inconsistent water supply following a number of power failures and trips experienced during the month of June at Rand Waters Vereeniging and Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plants as well as at the Palmiet, Eikenhof and Mapleton Booster Pumping Stations.
“The utilitys system remains impacted and is struggling to recover. Reduction of water consumption will enable the system to stabilise and recover,” said the City of Tshwane.

Parts of Garsfontein
Laudium
Atteridgeville
Murrayfield
Parkmore HL
Newlands
Olympus
Die Wilgers Hospital and surroundings
Wapadrand
The following reservoirs levels are low:
Bakenkop East (27%) Lotus Gardens (34%)
Mnandi South (26%)
Waverley HL (14%)
Villieria (15%)
“Other affected areas supplied directly from the Rand Water line include Thatchfield and Olievenhoutsbosch,” said the City of Tshwane.
“The affected regions are 1, 2, 3,4, 6 and parts of 5. Water tankers will be deployed to the areas experiencing challenges of water supply.
“The City of Tshwane apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered.”
