Johannesburg – Armed highway bandits attacked and bombed an armoured vehicle along the N4 in the Rosslyn area on Monday evening before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The armed robbery was the second along the N4 on Monday and details remained scant.
On Monday evening, just after 17:00, traffic was brought to a standstill on the N4 national highway in the vicinity of Watermeyer and Russouw Streets.
A number of armed suspects intercepted a cash-in-transit armoured vehicle, before blowing it up.
The suspects then made off with an undisclosed amount of money in an unknown direction.
Emer-G-Med said paramedics responded to the scene to find the carcass of the armoured vehicle occupying the width of the roadway.
“Two security officers sustained moderate injuries and were treated and stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” said Emer-G-Med.
Traffic in the area was severely affected as the roadway was closed to allow emergency services to clear the scene.
The South African Police Services were on the scene.
No arrests have been reported yet.
