Pretoria – Rand Water has delayed the planned water shutdown and announced new dates for its maintenance work.

“Following the deferment of Rand Water maintenance work that was initially planned for 30 July 2023, the water utility has notified Tshwane that the shutdown is now scheduled for 15 August 2023 from 05:00 until 16 August 2023 at 11:00,” the City of Tshwane said Thursday.

During this 30-hour shutdown period, the utility’s team of technicians will conduct repairs on leaks at the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant as well as the replacement of defective valves at the Palmiet Booster Station.

This prearranged shutdown at the Palmiet Booster Station will reduce pumping to 75% of its capacity.

Rand Water Reservoirs that will be affected include Klipriviersberg, Klipfontein, Brakfontein, and Hartebeesthoek.

The city urged residents to assist in conserving and using water sparingly by doing the following:

  • Do not water gardens.
  • Do not wash cars.
  • Do not clean driveways or pavements using hosepipes.
  • Do not fill swimming pools.
  • Flush toilets only when necessary.
  • Close a running tap while brushing teeth.
  • Reduce daily water usage as much as possible

The City said it “sincerely apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered as a result of the above-mentioned repairs”.
