Cape Town – DJ Sumbody must be turning in his grave because the thriving business he co-founded is said to be under siege from a well-known gangster intent on forcibly taking over.
The fight for ownership of the establishment – Ayepyep Lifestyle – has spilled out into the open amid allegations a Cape Town gang leader was trying to forcibly take over the successful business.
Ayepyep Lifestyle Group, which boasts of successfully running one of the country’s “biggest restaurant lifestyle lounges” is now publicly appealing for help.
Ayepyep, which said it has been operating its restaurant lounges for eight years, is appealing for
“immediate intervention” from President Cyril Ramaphosa, Police Minister General Bheki Cele, political leaders, society, business, and artists.
In a media statement posted on “X”, Ayepyep added: “We come before you as we find ourselves in a predicament which has escalated into a life-threatening situation for our staff, suppliers, and people associated with our sister branch, Ayepep Lifestyle Cape Town”.
The group added: “Our brand is well established and has demonstrated that over the years, but sadly we recently suffered an immense loss of one of the business co-founders, Oupa Sefoka popularly known as DJ Sumbody, who was assassinated in November 2022”.

AyepYep, which employs hundreds of workers, said it was still picking up the pieces after the slaying of DJ Sumbody but now finds itself “facing another challenge in the name of extortion”.
The group said it has explored legal means to defend the business, it was facing closure because of pressure from a gang.
Ayepyep describes the person it says is behind the threats as a gang leader.
“This is our final attempt at getting assistance from our government, we hope that this attempt will assist us to resolve not only our predicament but the predicament of so many other businesses that are striving to have free and peaceful operations in our country that we love and care about so much,” said Ayepyep.
