Rustenburg – Inmate Pule Vitals Mahanetsa – who is considered dangerous – has escaped from the Rustenburg Correctional Centre.
The 22-year-old Lesotho national was serving a three-month sentence for immigration offences when he escaped from the Medium A facility.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS), on Sunday, said it was working with the South African Police Services (SAPS) to find the escapee.
Mahanetsa escaped on Friday, (11 August 2023), and a manhunt was launched following his escape.
“Investigations into the escape incident have been instituted and the circumstances relating to the escape will be revealed once the investigation has been concluded,” the DCS said.
“The department is appealing to the public to assist with any information that may lead to the re-arrest of the inmate.
“He is considered dangerous and if spotted, information should be shared with the nearest Police Station.”
