Johannesburg – Moja Love “Sizokuthola” Presenter Xolani Khumalo, who has been linked to the death of an alleged drug dealer, on Tuesday handed himself over to the police.
City Press is reporting that Khumalo handed himself over to authorities at the Katlehong North Police Station.
Khumalo later appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was adjourned until 19 October to allow for further investigations.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said Khumalo was “released on R20 000 bail”.
Matters came to a head in July, earlier this year, when the channel raided the home of suspected drug dealer Robert Kicks Varrie in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni.
Varrie was declared dead at the Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus after he had been interrogated during the filming of a Moja Love Sizokuthola episode.
Commenting on the matter at the time of Varrie’s death, Nonzwakazi Cekete, Spokesperson for Siyaya TV, which owns Moja Love, said the show works with law enforcement agencies.
Cekete said: Based on information currently at our disposal, we are advised that following a community tip-off the crew on 19 July 2023 attended to a drug bust in Katlehong and did so in conjunction with community law enforcement groups, as is customary, that are recognised by the SA Police Service”.

Meanwhile, support for the popular television presenter appears to be growing.
A poster calling for a “national shutdown” on Friday in support of Khumalo is doing the rounds on social media.
