SPRING VACATION CLASSES: The Mpumalanga Department of Education has set a target of achieving a national Matric pass rate of 83% in 2023

Mbombela (Nelspruit) – The Mpumalanga Department of Education has set a target of achieving a national Matric pass rate of 83% in 2023.

In a bid to accomplish this, the department on Sunday announced that it was running spring classes for 23 000 matriculants ahead of the final-year examination.

The department said students will be accommodated in 116 camping centres set up in all the provincial districts from Monday, (2 October 2023) until Friday, (6 October 2023).

Mpumalanga education spokesperson Jasper Zwane said the camps targeted 167 schools, which performed less than 70% in the matriculation class of 2022.

“The aim of the spring classes is to expose learners to different best-performing classes that will assist learners with the identified challenging content and exam guidelines in order to improve their performance,” Zwane said.

“The classes will focus on high 11 enrolment subjects, including mathematics, English, physical science, and life science.”
