Standerton – A Somali national who was found selling alcohol from his tuckshop without the necessary liquor trading licence is also facing a charge of contravention of the Immigration Act.
The suspect in his 20s, was nabbed during the SA Police Service (SAPS) raid in Standerton, Mpumalanga at the weekend.
Mpumalanga SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said a total of 332,69 litres of alcohol with an estimated value of R20 000 were confiscated from the suspect.
“During the operation, police noticed suspicious movements and gatherings at this premises which also operated as a tuckshop,” Mohlala said.
“When police investigated, it was discovered that illegal liquor trading activities were being conducted inside this premises.”
He said the suspect was set to appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today.
“The astute members also discovered that he does not even have valid documentation to be in South Africa hence a charge of contravention of the Immigration Act was laid against him in addition to the one of selling liquor without a licence,” Mohlala said.
