Mbombela (Nelspruit) – The Mpumalanga Department of Education says it is confident and ready to administer the Grade 12 final examinations scheduled to begin on 30 October 2023.
This week the department said it was not expecting any glitches and had set an 83% pass rate target for themselves.
Mpumalanga consists of 68 681 full-time learners as well as 16 767 part-time learners registered to sit for the final national senior certificate examination.
Unveiling plans about their readiness ahead of the examination in Mbombela on Wednesday, Mpumalanga education MEC Bonakele Majuba said that all the candidates were expected to sign a code of good conduct pledge.
The candidates will sign the pledge on 20 October 2023 as part of their commitment to fully adhere to the examination rules and conducts.
He said that the 2023 provincial Grade 12 results would be officially announced at a ceremony scheduled to be held at the University of Mpumalanga’s headquarters in Mbombela on 19 January 2024.
“This year is expected to be the 13th year where the department runs and manages an incident-free examination process,” Majuba said.
“The administration of the examination in Mpumalanga has always been beyond reproach since in 2019 to date.
“We intend to improve by ensuring that this year’s examination as well remains credible and is managed with the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.”
MEC Majuba said the marking of the Grade 12 scripts will start on 3 December and continue up to 17 December 2023.
“It will take place in 20 marking centres which are spread throughout the province. The process of appointing markers and training them is at an advanced stage as we speak,” MEC Majuba said.
