Secunda – Four people died in a head-on collision between two cars along the N17, between Trichardt and Kinross, outside Secunda.

Both drivers were among the deceased.

The horror crash, in which four others were seriously hurt, occurred on Wednesday night, (18 October 2023).

Mpumalanga community safety, security and liaison spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said: “It is suspected that contravention of the road rules may have caused the crash.

“However, the investigation is underway.”

Mmusi said the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison was calling on motorists to always fully adhere to traffic rules.

“The MEC is sending condolences to the bereaved families and wishing those injured a speedy recovery,” said Mmusi.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Laison MEC Vusi Shongwe said the province was concerned about the increasing number of deaths on the province’s roads.

“All drivers must ensure that people and goods are transported safely on the road,” MEC Shongwe said.

“Obeying the rules… is non-negotiable and everyone must comply.”

The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
