Mbombela (Nelspruit) – Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane on Thursday, (19 October 2023), handed over state-of-the-art double cab rapid response firefighting vehicles to five local municipalities.
The firefighting vehicles were handed over at a ceremony held in Mbombela to Thaba Chweu, Dipaleseng, Lekwa, Nkomazi, and Chief Albert Luthuli municipalities.
Premier Mtsweni-Tsipane said that the rural municipalities deserved fully equipped rapid response vehicles.
“The province is prone to veld fires with the potential to endanger human lives, livestock as well as natural vegetation,” Premier Mtsweni-Tsipane said.
“The firefighting vehicles will improve the capacity of the municipalities to save lives through rapid response.”
She said that the availability of the fleet to the municipalities was part of the ANC-led government’s mission to accelerate the provision of viable services.
“Our mission as the ANC-led government is to honour our manifesto and improve the lives of the people of Mpumalanga,” Mtsweni-Tsipane said.
“We handed over these five essential firefighting vehicles that will enable our rural municipalities to respond to fire incidents promptly and efficiently in our communities.”
