Bushbuckridge – The dumped baby boy, who was found with his umbilical cord still attached, is recovering in hospital – a week after he was rescued from a pit toilet.
The baby’s 40-year-old mother, Noise Mhaule, has been arrested and is expected to appear in court on Friday, (27 October 2023).
Mhaule allegedly dumped her newborn baby in a pit toilet at a church in Ronaldsey Trust, near Ximhungwe in Bushbuchridge, Mpumalanga,

The rescued baby boy is receiving treatment at the Matikwana Hospital, where his condition was said to be “satisfactory”.
Mpumalanga health spokesperson Chris Nobela told The Bulrushes that Mhauli told health personnel and police that the baby boy was, indeed, hers.
“The baby is still being nursed at Matikwana Hospital. His condition is satisfactory and feeding well on formula feeds. He is weighing 3.1kg,” Nobela said.
“The baby was brought to the hospital by the police and a church lady after he was found in a pit toilet.
“The mother came with the police at the hospital for an identification of the baby and left with them.”
Speaking to The Bulrushes, Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the baby’s mother was arrested after a community tip-off.
Mdhluli said the accused was arrested at the Matikwana Hospital soon after the baby was found and rescued.
The accused made her first appearance at Calcutta Magistrate’s court, where her case was postponed to Friday, (27 October 2023), for her bail application.
She was charged with child neglect and remains in custody.
