Komatipoort – The 40-year-old Mozambican truck driver arrested at the Lebombo border for smuggling into SA counterfeit goods with an estimated street value of R2 million is set to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
He was arrested on Saturday by the Hawks in conjunction with the Lebombo border police after they found fake branded goods, including takkies, inside his Volvo truck that was pulling two trailers.
The arrested driver faces charges related to contravening the SA Customs and Excise Act and dealing in counterfeit goods.
Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said: “The truck and trailers were stopped and searched”.
A huge amount of counterfeit goods were found and seized.
The driver was arrested by the Hawks in conjunction with the Lebombo border police unit after his Volvo truck pulling two trailers was found loaded with fake branded goods.
