Durban – The Public Servants Association (PSA) on Tuesday called for an “urgent investigation” into the untimely death of Mthoko Qwabe at his Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital residence over the weekend.
In a statement, the PSA appealed to the Department of Employment and Labour, the South African Police Service, as well as the Head of the Department of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health, Dr. Sandile Tshabalala, “to conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Qwabe’s passing”.
The union said it was crucial that the cause of his death be uncovered and to ensure that justice is served.
Qwabe, a PSA member, served as a ward clerk administrator at the hospital, where the union said he demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment to his role.
“His contributions to the Hospital and the PSA were highly valued, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of working with him,” the statement said.
“The PSA stands in solidarity with Mr Qwabe’s family, colleagues, and close friends during this time of profound grief.”
The PSA extended its gratitude to the medical staff at the hospital for their efforts in caring for Qwabe.
“The PSA requests that the privacy of Mr. Qwabe’s family be respected as they mourn the loss of their beloved family member,” the statement said.
“The PSA’s deepest condolences go out to Mr. Qwabe’s family, colleagues, and close friends during this difficult time.”
