Phala Phala Farm Burglary: 2 Accused Appear In Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court

Pretoria – Phala Phala farm burglary accused 39-year-old Imanuwela David and 30-year-old Frolina Joseph made their first appearance in the Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Tuesday.

The pair was arrested in Rustenburg and Bela Bela by the members of the National Serious Corruption Investigation regarding the Phala Phala farm break-in in February 2020. 

The accused, one of them a former cleaner at the farm, allegedly made off with about $580 000 received from Sudanese businessman Hazim Mustafa as payment for livestock.

Allegations are that in January 2020, the accused persons conspired to commit housebreaking with intent to steal and theft at Phalaphala farm.

However, police investigations revealed that on 8 January 2020, Imanuwela with two others allegedly broke into Stokkiesdraai farm believing that it was Phala Phala farm.

Allegations are that the following night they located the Phala Phala farm, where they broke in and stole US$580 000.

The arrested pair face multiple charges including:

  • conspiracy to commit housebreaking with intent to steal and theft, 
  • housebreaking with intent to steal, 
  • theft and 
  • money laundering  

The case was postponed to Friday, (10 November 2023), for legal representation for David.
