Vaalbank – A 48-year-old guard at KwaManala Senior Secondary in Mpumalanga has been arrested after a 16-year-old Grade 11 schoolgirl reported that he raped her.
Allegations are that the powerful guard forcibly took the girl, who was in full school uniform, to a nearby bush, where he violated her.
The shocking incident occurred last week on Friday.
Narrating events leading to the rape, Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, on Thursday, (23 November 2023), said: “According to information, the learner arrived at school early at about 6 am. She was the first to arrive at school”.
Brigadier Mohlala said: “The victim alleged that the security guard instructed her to come with him, pulled her by her clothes, and threatened to assault her with the iron rod should she make any noise.
“She was forced to the bushes, where the security guard allegedly raped her.
“At the time, neither the learners nor teachers were at school.”
Brigadier Mohlala said after the assault, the guard threatened the schoolgirl with death if she told anyone about it.
When the guard left to buy food, the brave schoolgirl left the school and reported the matter to the police.
Commenting on the matter, Mpumalanga Department of Education Spokesperson Gerald Sambo said: “The department has learnt with a great shock of an incident where a security guard at KwaManala Secondary School raped a 16-year-old female learner”.
The suspect will appear in court on Monday (27 November 2023).
