Mahikeng (Mafikeng) – Radio Bop Africa is coming back, a little later than planned.
The station, which was meant to go live today, (1 December 2023), said the launch has been delayed “due to unforeseen technical circumstances beyond our control”.

The station’s Marketing and PR officer Lerato Phoku said some of the yesteryear presenters – who will be part of the station – include:
- Peter Vusi Manzana,
- Sammy Fever,
- Minah Pilane,
- Goitsemodimo Seleka (who are former Radio Mmabatho/Radio Setswana presenters),
- Vincent Maseko and (From the old Radio Bop)
- Hector Matlhabe (From the old Radio Bop)
“We going to infuse the old legends and the new talent in the game,” added Phoku.
“We feel as a station that it is important to balance the new and the old so that the new presenters can drink from the fountains of knowledge from the experience of broadcasting legends.”
She said the only difference between “then and now” on Radio Bop was time.
“The content, music, and professionalism will remain uncompromised,”‘ said Phoku.
She promised the listeners more music from the African continent, as the station wants to make its mark in the continent.
“We will have music from other African countries, as we want to be a force to be reckoned with on the continent,” said Phoku.
She said Radio Bop remains a highly regarded institution of broadcasting in South Africa, which produced talented broadcasters.
“We going back to basics of radio broadcasting, with lots of good content,” said Phoku.
“At the moment we will be broadcasting as an online station, and soon we will be on FM as we want to compete with the best in South African radio landscape.”
The station will be broadcasting from the Bop studios in Mahikeng, where the original Radio Bop kicked off their broadcast on 5 December 1978, until it was shut down on 31 July 2003.
However, it resurfaced again in 2018 as a digital commercial radio station live streaming globally
The original Radio BOP was a radio station that operated under the Bophuthatswana Bantustan regime under apartheid South Africa.
