Durban – The Democratic Alliance (DA) KwaZulu-Natal Leader, Francois Rodgers, on Thursday visited the family of the party’s slain chief whip in Umngeni, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, who was fatally shot in his home earlier this week.
Rodgers met with the grieving Ndlovu family, including his wife, to offer comfort and support.
Rodgers acknowledged that while there are still more questions than answers around this tragic incident, answers must emerge.
He also said the case of Ndlovu’s killing should not share a similar fate to that of Senzo Meyiwa, AKA or renowned KZN journalist Bongani Mbatha, where the trail goes cold while the families receive no closure.
Rodgers said Ndlovu’s cold-blooded killing was a result of the ANC’s failure, along with the SA Police Service to intervene in political killings in the province, meaning the ANC is part of the problem and not the solution.
Less than 24 hours ago Rodgers led a delegation to meet the Zulu king in Ulundi where the two discussed extensively the issues around political killings and murders in the province which must be arrested.
Rodgers made the following announcements:
• The DA, in support of the incentive announced by Umngeni Mayor Chris Pappas, yesterday will put up another R100 000 towards information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of Ndlovu’s killers. This means the overall reward offered by the DA is now R200 000.
• The deployment of a private prosecution-led investigation team to help hunt down the murderers behind the heinous crime.
During his message of comfort to the wife of the late Umngeni Chief Whip, Rodgers promised that no stone would be left unturned and no costs would be spared to ensure justice was served.
Rodgers further called on all peace-loving people of KZN to join the DA in the fight against crime and political killings.
