Secunda – Three grown men, who took turns to rape a 16-year-old girl, will each spend 18 years in jail for their dastardly deeds.

Convicted rapists 28-year-old Thokozani David Hlophe, 30-year-old Thokozane Obert Zwane, and 38-year-old Sikhumbuzo Jacob Hlophe were this week sentenced by Secunda Regional Court in Mpumalanga.

The court heard that the three men gang-raped the girl inside a car that had been parked outside the tavern in Morgenzon, Ermelo, in December 2018.

Commenting on the sentence, Mpumalanga SA Police Service Commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela said: “The sentence came at the time when the world has embarked on 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children”.

Lieutenant General Manamela added: “The sentences should serve as a deterrence and lesson for community members to refrain from any form of abuse.”
