Graskop – A 37-year-old man has been caught for the second time this year with explosives in his possession.
The suspect was arrested in Matibidi, Mpumalanga, on Friday after police stopped and searched his car and found explosives hidden underneath a spare wheel.
Mpumalanga SA Police Service Spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the arrested suspect has a similar outstanding case of illegal possession of explosives, which he allegedly committed in August this year.
Mohlala said in July this year the suspect was arrested for possession of gold-bearing material. He was convicted in October and ordered to pay a fine.
Commenting on the suspect’s latest arrest, Mohlala said the police responded to information, which described the motor vehicle he was driving.
“The said vehicle was spotted and the driver was ordered to stop,” Mohlala said.
“Thereafter a search was conducted and it was during this period when the astute members discovered some explosives”.
The explosives were found hidden under the spare wheel.
“The man failed to account hence he was arrested and charged,” said Mohlala.
The arrested suspect will appear in the Graskop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
