IMPOUNDED: More than 460 overloaded vehicles have been impounded by traffic authorities in Mpumalanga

Mbombela (Nelspruit) – Traffic authorities in Mpumalanga have so far impounded more than 460 overloaded vehicles and arrested 36 motorists for overspeeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mpumalanga traffic and police officers were out in force on the province’s roads.

The province’s Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe said Wednesday that the hard work displayed by the diligent law enforcement officers was in line with the province’s festive season road safety campaign’s plan.

“Our law enforcement should continue working harder,” Shongwe said.

“They must reign in on any lawlessness and disregard for road rules. We are also confident that our plans will bear fruit.”

He said motorists should always fully adhere to traffic rules.

“We are content with the collaboration we have with other role players this holiday season. Our motorists and other road users must obey the rules. We must all play our part,” MEC Shongwe said.
