Carolina – Five people died Monday night and two others were injured when their articulated truck, laden with logs, overturned along the R33, near Carolina in Mpumalanga.
Four of the people were declared dead on the crash scene and another person succumbed to injuries in hospital.
All the five deceased were passengers.
The truck driver was among the injured.
Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison Moeti Mmusi suggested the tragedy may have been caused by human error.
“It is suspected that the driver may have lost control of the truck before it overturned,” said Mmusi, adding that an investigation into the cause of the deadly crash was already underway.
However, the details of the deceased were withheld while their next of kin were being traced.
