Johannesburg – Bafana Bafana knocked out favourites Morocco from AFCON on Tuesday night with two goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena.
The Atlas Lions were a far cry from the team that performed so well at the World Cup. They huffed and puffed and never looked like scoring.
Morocco was so outclassed they couldn’t even score from the penalty spot with just five minutes left of regular time.
Achraf Hakimi blasted the ball over the bar from the penalty spot before Bafana scored the second goal in extra time.
Mokoena’s free kick from outside the penalty area was a beauty that beat Yassine “Bono” Bounou at the near post to put paid to any hopes of a comeback for Morocco.
To add to the Atlas Lion’s misery Sofyan Amrabat, who plays for Manchester United in the premier league, was sent off in the dying minutes of the game, which went on for 11 minutes after regulation time.
South Africa will take on Cape Verde on Saturday in the quarter-finals.
