Majembeni – The body of a 25-year-old trainee traditional healer, who “disappeared” while performing rituals, was retrieved on Sunday from the Rainbow River in Majembeni Trust.

The tragedy unfolded near Bushbuckridge, in Mpumalanga, where three male trainee Sangomas and a female traditional healer were performing rituals in the river.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli confirmed that Sunday’s incident occurred during the performance of rituals in the river.

“During the process, one of the trainees disappeared inside the river. A search was conducted with no luck,”
Colonel Mdhluli said.

He said the police were alerted and they acted immediately.

“Police divers were summoned to the scene, but sadly the body was retrieved after three hours,” Colonel Mdhluli said.

“What is currently known is that there were no visible injuries on the deceased’s body, however, an inquest is being investigated by the police.”

The deceased has not yet been named.

Colonel Mdhluli warned against performing rituals at lakes and rivers because heavy rains were making such places dangerous.
