Kimberley – Two people have been arrested for stealing an ambulance at a hospital in Pofadder in the Northern Cape.
The ambulance was parked at the hospital when it was allegedly stolen on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the police in Pofadder managed to recover the stolen ambulance minutes after it was stolen from the hospital premises.
“The ambulance was apparently parked in front of the hospital when it was stolen on 24 February 2024 at about 18:00,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kock.
He said the lice recovered the ambulance on the N14 near the Gamsberg mine between Pofadder and Aggenys.
“The two suspects are aged 23 and 28 years old and were arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and are expected to appear in the Pofadder Magistrate’s Court soon,” Lieutenant Colonel Kock said.
In a separate incident, Sergeant Dikeledi Gopane said three women were arrested after they were found in possession of suspected stolen property with an estimated value of R20 000.
Sergeant Gopane said the three were arrested on Friday after a security officer alerted the police about a suspicious vehicle at a local shopping mall.
“The information was followed up, and the vehicle was stopped and searched,” Sergeant Gopane said.
“Police recovered suspected stolen goods, including clothing, toiletries, and appliances, with an estimated value of R20 000.
“ It is believed that the goods were stolen from stores in the mall.
“Three women aged 25, 40, and 43 respectively were arrested of whom one is a Lesotho national.”
A silver-grey Volkswagen vehicle, allegedly used in the commission of a crime, was seized.
