Pretoria – National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola made a brief appearance in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court and was charged with four counts of breaching the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
The state said during the brief appearance on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, that the charges were linked to the R360 million rand irregular tender awarded to Medicare 24, a company owned by businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
The state revealed that its investigations into the matter were at an “advanced stage” and it had added General Masemola to the ongoing case of Mtalala and 15 others regarding the dodgy tender, which has since been cancelled.
The outstanding issues to be concluded in the matter of PFMA breaches included bank statements.
General Masemola, who was asked if he understood the proceedings, agreed to return to court on 13 May 2026, when he will join Matlala and 15 others in the dock.
