Atlanta – Bafana Bafana fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Czechia thanks to a Teboho Mokoena penalty late in the second half.
Mokeona, who had been yellow-carded, will miss the next game, and his contribution more than made amends.
Czechia had surged ahead just six minutes into the game from an unlikely source; Michal Sadilek, who last scored for his national team three years ago.
To advance, Bafana must now beat South Korea in their final group match without their suspended hero, Mokeona.
The South Africans remain anchored at the bottom of Group A.
Mexico leads the group with 3 points, South Korea follows with 3, Czechia sits on 1, and Bafana trails with just 1 point.
South Africa’s knockout dream is still alive. Barely.
