Komatipoort – A truck driver caught smuggling counterfeit goods with an estimated street value of R1.8 million into South Africa from Mozambique, has been remanded in custody by the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga.
The 44-year-old truck driver, Eurico Zandamela, was arrested Friday night at the Lebombo port of entry in Komatipoort.
He appeared in court on Monday.
Hawks Mpumalanga Spokesperson Warrant Officer Thandi Tshabalala said the fake goods that included “tekkies” were concealed inside a container at the back of a trailer.
