Matsulu – The man accused of fatally stabbing two of his relatives – 40-year-old Doris Sibiya and her 23-year-old daughter Noxolo Khoza – while they watched television, has been remanded in custody by the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court, Mpumalanga.

The 40-year-old double murder accused Thulani “Mathousand” Sikhundla appeared in court this week on Tuesday.

The court heard that Sikhundla visited the two women at their house in Matsulu last Tuesday night, (2 April 2024).

Allegations are that while both women and Sikhundla were watching television, the accused suddenly turned on them.

Both women were repeatedly stabbed allegedly by Sikhundla.

Sibiya’s son, asleep in his bedroom, was awakened by the screams of his mother and sister.

He ran out of the house to a neighbour, where he sought help.

When he returned with the neighbours, he found a bloody scene. His mother and sister lay motionless with multiple stab wounds.

The attacker was gone.

Murdered Khoza left behind a six-month-old baby.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the suspect in Barberton on Monday (8 April 2024).

At this stage, the exact motive behind the double murder is still unclear.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the arrested suspect was a very close family member of the deceased.

The motive for the bloody attack remains unknown.

Murder accused Sikhundla will nest appear in court on Wednesday, next week, (17 April 2024).
