Johannesburg – ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Chairperson Funzi Ngobeni, and Chairperson of the Youth Forum Hluphi Gafane, who were reported missing after they had been hijacked, have been found safe.
The pair were hijacked Tuesday evening in Olivenhoutbosch and held captive for several hours.
Soon after the hijacking ActionSA National Chairperson Michael Beaumont said a vehicle tracking company and law enforcement agencies had initiated a search.
In a statement late Tuesday, Action SA confirmed that the party’s Gauteng premier candidate, Ngobeni, and youth leader Gafane had been “located in the Benoni area” and freed.
“It is confirmed that these ActionSA leaders were hijacked in Olivenhoutbosch at approximately 19:00 this evening and held by the hijackers, eventually being located in the Benoni area,” the statement said.
“ActionSA is pleased to report that both Ngobeni and Gafane are unharmed but undoubtedly shaken from the experience.”
The party expressed “its profound gratitude” to members of the police who were “incredibly responsive”.
It was unclear if the hijacked vehicle was recovered or if any arrests were made.
