Kefalonia – A 20-year-old tourist from South Africa, identified only as “Benjamin”, was found dead on Friday in the waters off Kefalonia, Greece, reports greekcitytimes.com.

The South African was reported missing on Thursday afternoon after he reportedly went for a swim.

The greekcitytimes.com report says the young man had been aboard a catamaran, where he was reportedly working, when he decided to go for a swim.

When he didn’t return, alarm bells sounded, and a full-scale search began.

The Hellenic Coast Guard, private vessels, a diver, and a Hellenic Air Force helicopter participated in the search.

The 20-year-old tourist was found dead 17 hours later, near the area where he was last seen swimming.

Benjamin’s family, who were vacationing in Kefalonia, are devastated, reports greekcitytimes.com.

His mother took to social media to thank everyone who assisted in the search for her son.
