Groblersdal – The Hawks have uncovered an illicit drug lab on a farm in  Groblersdal, Limpopo, where they arrested two Mexican nationals and the owner of the property.

Acetone and crystal meth – with an estimated street value of R2 billion -was also seized by law enforcers.

Narrating events leading to the bust, Police Ministry Spokesperson Kamogelo Mokgotsi said acting on information about suspicious activities on a farm, the Hawks and a multi-disciplinary team swooped on Friday, (19 July 20224).

Mokgotsi said: “Four structures on the property were searched and large quantities of chemicals used in the manufacturing of illicit drugs including acetone as well as crystal meth with an estimated street value of R2 billion were recovered”.

Mokgotsi said four suspects including the farm owner and two Mexican nationals were arrested.

While the investigation continues, the arrested suspects will make their first appearance in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s court on Monday, (22 July 2024), on charges of manufacturing, dealing, and possession of illicit drugs.

“The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has since the beginning of this year uncovered 10 clandestine drug laboratories and made 34 arrests,” said Mokgotsi.

“The Hawks are not ruling out the possibility of more suspects being arrested.”
