Johannesburg – Police divers have recovered the body of 18-year-old Greenside High School head boy Reza Saloojee who was swept away by heavy currents at the Vaal Dam.

The body was recovered on Tuesday.

TimesLIVE reports that the head boy’s father, Bilal Salooje confirmed the body was recovered just before 5 pm.

The tragedy unfolded on Sunday afternoon when Reza, who had been fishing with his cousins, tried to retrieve a floating tackle box that had been blown by the wind into the water.

Reza, who could swim, was swept away by heavy currents.

Bilal described his son as a caring and loving person.

“He was just a loving child. He was the joy of the world,” Bilal was quoted as saying by TimesLIVE.

“He was a head boy at Greenside High. He’s done exceptionally well at school, academically and socially, being part of their leadership team and involved with their activities.

“He was quiet but really thrived in everything he did. He loves sport as well.

“He was active in his sport and religious as well. He was just a loving child. He was the joy of the world.”
Even as he grieved the passing of his son, TimesLIVE reports that Bilal expressed gratitude for the consistent updates from local authorities and the recovery of his son’s body.
