Johannesburg – Former television presenter Thulasizwe Simelane is joining SAfm radio as the new breakfast show host.

In a statement on Friday, the South African Broadcasting Corporation said it was “excited to announce that esteemed journalist and broadcaster, Mr. Thulasizwe Simelane will be joining the award-winning station SAfm as the new host and anchor of the station’s flagship breakfast show, ‘The Morning Brief’.”

The SABC said from Monday, 2 September 2024, listeners can tune into SAfm weekdays between 06:00-09:00 to catch Simelane on ‘The Morning Brief’, a unique blend of hard-hitting news and current affairs content, in-depth interviews, and lively discussions.

The Morning Brief is positioned to brief listeners as their day starts and to help inform their decision-making on various national, continental, and international conversations.

“Mr Simelane is a trusted voice in broadcast journalism, known for his insightful reporting and engaging presence,” the statement said.

Simelane started his radio journalism career at the SABC in 2007, where amongst his accomplishments he established the SABC Harare Bureau.

His extensive broadcasting experience includes anchoring prime-time news on various news television networks including eNCA, Newzroom Afrika, where he was head of the political news desk.

Simelane holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Rhodes University and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Wits University.

His addition to SAfm is set to bring a fresh dynamic appeal and energy to morning talk radio.

Radio Fortune Combo Business Manager Anthony Soglo said: “We are excited to welcome Mr. Simelane to SAfm.

“He joins at a very exciting period in our country as we celebrate 30 years of democracy where his style of delivering factual, compelling, and engaging content will be key to our audience as we continue to grow the SAfm family.’

Commenting on his appointment, Simelane said “I return to broadcasting with a fresh perspective on life, South Africa, Africa, and the world.

“I feel my recent experience in the corporate sector, coupled with the professional growth journey I’m on, have sharpened me to better understand complex issues in politics, international relations, business, and the law, but also to ask better questions of power brokers and wielders.”

Tune into SAfm weekday mornings from 06:00 – 09:00 to experience ‘The Morning Brief’ breakfast show with Simelane as he leads the conversation.
