Mbombela – The Mpumalanga Department of Education has encouraged Grade 12 learners to remain committed to writing the preliminary examinations.

The exams are meant to prepare learners for their upcoming final Senior Certificate examinations scheduled for the next two months.

The preparatory examinations kicked off on Monday (19 August) and will be wrapped up next month on 18 September.

Mpumalanga Education MEC Cathy Dlamini on Wednesday said preparatory exams play a vital role.

“The preparatory examinations provide an opportunity for Grade 12 learners to gauge or measure themselves using similar tools as the end of the year examinations,” said MEC Dlamini.

“We want the best for our learners and we are confident that these preparatory examinations will help them immensely.

“We really urge them to take this opportunity with both hands and we wish them all the best.”

She said parents can also play a vital role in ensuring the success of the learners by allowing them to spend more time on their studies than other activities.

“Parents are requested to support their children by affording them an opportunity to study at home,” said MEC Dlamini.

“They are encouraged to create a conducive environment and provide support to their children to study.

“We thus need to work as a collective with parents, teachers, and the learners to ensure that learners improve their performance using these examinations as stepping stones.”
