Pretoria – Dr. Nasiphi Moya has been elected as the new Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane.
ActionSA’s Moya was deputy mayor to the ousted Democratic Alliance member Cilliers Brink, whose mayorship ended with a no-confidence vote.
The outcome of the vote on Wednesday, (9 October 2024), saw Dr. Moya score 122 votes to 86 for Brink, who was voted out of the job two weeks ago.

Accepting her election, Dr. Moya said: “I would like to begin by thanking fellow Councillors, their constituents, and leadership for placing faith, trust, and commitment in me for this mammoth task of leading the City of Tshwane.
“I humbly accept this task wholeheartedly, fully appreciating that the journey ahead is a daunting one.
“But, working together, one that I believe will lead to a new era of prosperity and universal quality service delivery for our great capital city.”
The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) said it “welcomes” the election of Dr. Moya as the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane.
SAMWU said: “Having previously served as Deputy Mayor under Councillor Brink, Mayor Moya is no stranger to the executive leadership of this city.
“Her election heralds a long-overdue transformation that Tshwane’s workers and residents have been yearning for.”
