Durban – The Ezimbokodweni River Bridge, along the N2 Southbound, in KwaZulu-Natal, has partially collapsed.

MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma on Tuesday, (5 November 2024), said: “Our dedicated team from Road Traffic Inspectorate has briefed me about the overall management of traffic flow following the partial collapsing Ezimbokodweni River Bridge – N2 Southbound”.

“I have been in constant liaison with the Minister of Transport, Barbra Creecy, as the executive authority responsible for the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL).

“The minister has assured me that a team from SANRAL is managing the matter as N2 Ezimbokodweni River Bridge falls under the entity.”

The minister was in Kwa Zulu-Natal a few weeks ago, together with SANRAL to monitor the upgrade of N2 and N3 with a budget of R50 billion.

“We continue to interact with the minister to accelerate the repair, maintenance and construction of our roads and bridges,” said MEC Duma.

Videos of daring motorists crossing the partially collapsed bridge have surfaced on social media.
