Johannesburg – Ousted mayor Kabelo Gwamanda has lost his job as a Joburg Council Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development.
Gwamanda was pressured into resiging as Joburg mayor. He was appointed MMC soon after his resignation.

Things took a turn for the worst last month when the Al Jama-ah minority party member was arrested for fraud.

Much to the chagrin of the Democratic Alliance, after Gwamanda’s arrest on suspicion of funeral policy fraud, he was placed on “special leave”.
Now he has been let go.
Announcing the end of the road for the former mayor, spokesperson Chris Vondo said in a statement on Saturday, (9 November 2024): “The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Councillor Dada Morero, has officially relieved Councillor Kabelo Gwamanda, the former Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development, of all his official duties”.
The statement added: “The decision to discharge MMC Gwamanda is effective immediately and aims to ensure that the City’s service delivery remains uninterrupted and continues to meet the needs of its residents.
“In light of this change, Councillor Morero has appointed Councillor Tebogo Nkonkou as the new MMC for Community Development, effective immediately.
“The Executive Mayor expressed confidence that Councillor Nkonkou will lead the department with the dedication and commitment to further improve the lives of the City’s residents.
“The City of Johannesburg remains steadfast and committed to ensuring continued delivery of quality services to the people through the eyes of residents of Johannesburg.”
