Richards Bay – Wanted for murder in Richards Bay, 27-year-old Halalisani Nchunu, has been arrested in Gauteng and hauled before a court.

Nchunu was found with a 9mm pistol and three AK47s of which one has already been linked to the murder of the murdered businessman.

The accused appeared before the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.

He has been linked to the murder of Sipho Zwelethemba Masuku, who was a Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) contractor.

Masuku was murdered on 9 August 2024 in Meerensee, Richards Bay.

He was found in his Toyota Fortuner, which was riddled with bullet holes.

A passenger in the same vehicle as Masuku was also shot but survived.

“The SAPS [SA Police Service] task team is hot on the heels of other suspects who are believed to have been involved in this assassination,” said national police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

The Acting National Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya has commended the relentless efforts of the task team for working tirelessly in tracing those that are behind the theft of minerals at RBM and those linked to the murders of executives and businessmen linked to the mine.
