Johannesburg – The Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has commended the South African Police Service (SAPS) for arresting a suspected drug trafficker at OR Tambo International Airport.
The suspect, a 25-year-old Brazilian national, was arrested on Sunday, (24 November 2024), after arriving from São Paulo, Brazil, with over three kilograms of cocaine valued at about R1.8 million concealed on his body.

ACSA Regional General Manager for Cluster 1, Jabulani Khambule, on Wednesday, (27 November 2024), applauded the arrest of the suspected drug mule and the efforts of all stakeholders involved.
“We commend the South African Police Service and all law enforcement partners for their vigilance and collaboration in safeguarding our airports and communities,” said Khambule.
“OR Tambo International Airport serves as a key gateway to the country, and we are committed to ensuring it remains a secure environment for all.
“This arrest is a clear demonstration of the importance of intelligence sharing and operational synergy in combating criminal activities.”
Kambule said the arrest underscores the strong partnership between SAPS, airport security personnel, and other agencies.
