Rietfontein – Police – armed with a search and seizure warrant – raided a property in Reitfontein and uncovered an illicit drug manufacturing lab where they arrested a suspect from Mexico.
The clandestine lab was manufacturing Crystal Meth, also known as Tik.
“An intelligence-driven operation led police to uncover a drug laboratory with an estimated value of R100 million in Rietfontein, Gauteng on Wednesday, (27 November 2024) and arrested a 39-year-old Mexican national,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk.
The swoop followed extensive surveillance of the premises by a multi-disciplinary team comprising police national and provincial organised crime investigations (narcotics) units, a national counter-narcotics unit, Diepsloot and Westrand Tactical Response units, and a West Rand K9 unit.
“The takedown led the team to seize various chemicals, drug manufacturing equipment, and final product which was confirmed to be Methamphetamine commonly known as Crystal Meth or Tik,” said Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk.
“The team also seized cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court, in Pretoria, on charges of dealing in and manufacturing illicit drugs as well as for contravention of the SA Immigration Act.
