FATAL CRASH: This minibus taxi overturned Monday morning along the N3 between Heidelberg and Villiers in Mpumalanga
SHARE

Heidelberg – Seven passengers have died in a minibus taxi crash along the N3 between Heidelberg and Villiers in Mpumalanga.

The fatal crash, which occurred Monday morning, (23 December 2024), also left five others injured.

The injured were taken to different healthcare facilities, including Frankfort Hospital in the Free State.

For now, authorities said they were withholding details of the deceased because they were still trying to trace the deceased’s next of kin to first inform them of the tragedy.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie said a preliminary investigation indicated that the minibus taxi was travelling to KwaZulu Natal from Gauteng when it overturned.

MEC Macie urged road users, including pedestrians to exercise caution and always fully adhere to traffic rules.

“It is deeply saddening to see such an abrupt end to other people’s lives when they were supposed to celebrate the holiday season with their loved ones,” MEC Macie said.

“All road users must always prioritise their lives and that of others by being extremely cautious.”

Police are investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
