Durban – A man in his 50s drowned in a swimming pool in the Amanzimtoti area, south of Durban.

“Just after 7 pm, Sunday evening, ALS Paramedics responded to yet another Drowning incident on MacDonald Road in Kingsburgh, South of Durban,” said spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the lifeless body of a man believed to be in his 50s, near a private swimming pool.

“Unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.”

Police were in attendance and will be investigating further.

“This is the second drowning incident ALS Paramedics have responded to today,” lamented Jamieson.

Jamieson said in the earlier incident, on Sunday afternoon just before 02:30, ALS Paramedics responded to a near-drowning incident at a local beach in Doonside, near Amanzimtoti, South of Durban.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the female believed to be in her twenties being attended to by local lifeguards,” Jamieson recalled

“Advanced Life Support Paramedics took over the care of the patient and stabilised her on the scene before transporting the patient to a nearby Hospital for the further care that she required.

“It is believed that the patient was swimming when she encountered difficulties and was assisted by Life Savers.”

Jamieson added: “We urge people to please be careful when swimming and do not swim under the influence of any substance.”
