Cape Town – African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says senior party members Tony Yengeni and Obed Bapela will face disciplinary action for their utterances that bring the party into disrepute.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, (6 January 2025), about the upcoming “ANC January 8 statement” commemoration, Mbalula addressed recent comments by Yengeni that were at variance with the ANC.
Responding to Yengeni’s negative stance on the ANC and Government of National Unity, Mbalula said: “Tony Yengeni is nothing else but a political Cassanova”.
Mbalula added: “He is spewing vagrant political views and views that are embraced by a few malcontents who are opposed to the ANC.
“He will be charged… I have informed him through an SMS… I called him… we will charge him… we will and bring him before the disciplinary processes of the ANC.”
The ANC SG said Yengeni’s posts on social media were at variance with the party and in support of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.
Mbalula also warned other ANC leaders who post comments on social media that attack the party’s leadership.
“They too will be attended very soon”.
Mbalula also said senior party member, Bapela, will be charged over his Morocco trip, where his actions went against ANC policy.
“Discipline is important,” Mbalula said.
The ANC January 8 statement will be delivered in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday, (11 January 2025).
