Pienaar – Police in Mpumalanga have made a swift breakthrough in the Tavern shooting that left eight people dead and others injured with the arrest of a suspect and recovery of a gun.
Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the deadly Saturday, (11 January 2025), morning shooting at Levisa Bar Lounge in Pienaar, near Mbombela (Nelspruit).

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane revealed on Monday, (13 January 2025), that law enforcers had made a “breakthrough”.
Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane added: “A suspect was arrested in Pienaar”.
The suspect was nabbed Sunday, (12 January 2025), night and a firearm was confiscated during his arrest.
The suspect will appear in court soon. Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane said investigations were continuing.
