Pretoria – The goings-on at ZanZou nightclub in Pretoria have gotten darker with claims in a post on X alleging that the source of the disturbing video clips of patrons being abused and humiliated has evidence that people were killed inside the club.
In a statement, the nightclub management said the disturbing video clips that went viral on social media were “historic” and were only posted on social media after management refused to yield to a former employee’s extortion attempt.
Three victims aged 20, 21, and 22 have since come forward and reported to the Brooklyn Police Station how they were assaulted and violated at the Zanzou nightclub in January 2023.
The victims allege that the incident happened after a dispute arose between the five friends, bouncers, and manager of the Zanzou nightclub.
The bouncers and manager allegedly forced the five clubgoers into a store room and began assaulting them.
The men were stripped naked and ordered to perform lewd acts on themselves while the abomination was filmed.
Other video clips doing the rounds show the whistleblower identified as “Pablo” speaking in a foreign accent alleging people were killed.
He claims he worked for the Zanzou nightclub for seven years and has proof of the murders and even names the people involved.
The Bulrushes has not been able to independently verify the claims made by Pablo that patrons were beaten to death at the nightclub.
Police said they were searching for eight suspects.
Earlier on Tuesday, (18 February 2025), a video on Tiktok showed a huge Truck parked outside the Zanzou nightclub, prompting suggestions the club was being emptied.
The Bulrushes contacted national SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Matheto to inquire if the nightclub was closing down and removing its equipment.
Brigadier Mathe would not be drawn to give details save to say: “Police attended to the scene”.
The chorus of voices calling for Zanzou nightclub to close is growing.
The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development called on law enforcement agencies and all relevant constitutional structures to act swiftly and decisively in investigating this grave violation of human rights.
The department said any establishment found to be complicit in, or tolerating such heinous acts, must face serious consequences.
“In this regard, we call for the immediate closure of Zanzou nightclub until a full and thorough investigation,” the department said.
The EFF in Gauteng called for the arrest of Stephane Cohen, the owner of Zanzou Club, and demanded that the Zanzou nightclub be shut down.
ATM said Zanzou nightclub must be closed and its owners should never be granted a license to operate again, while the workers involved in those atrocious acts must face the full might of the law.
Not In My Name International demanded the “immediate closure” of the nightclub pending a thorough investigation.
